What This Etsy Photo Check Tells You

Use this tool on an original photo before publishing. It distinguishes a format issue from advice about dimensions, file weight and framing. It does not send your image to Etsy or certify a listing.

Look at the Garment, Not Just the Pixel Count

A photo can meet the size recommendation and still lose a sleeve in a thumbnail. After selecting an image, compare the example crops above. Check the neckline, cuffs and hem. If an edge disappears, use an original with more space around the clothing.

The previews use fixed centre crops: square 1:1, portrait 3:4 and landscape 4:3. They are illustrations, not official Etsy aspect-ratio requirements or a prediction of every placement. Make the final adjustment in Etsy.

Keep a Copy You Can Reframe

Does this checker confirm Etsy will accept my photo?

No. It checks dimensions, file weight, the reported format and orientation. It does not check every Etsy policy, colour profile, animation or transparency. Review the final upload in Etsy.

Why does a large image get a warning instead of failing?

The 2000px recommendation and 1MB upload-risk guidance are not hard rejection rules. The checker explains each warning so you can decide whether to use a sharper original or compress the file.

Are the crop previews exact Etsy thumbnails?

No. The square, portrait and landscape frames are illustrative centre crops. They do not predict every Etsy placement. Use the thumbnail adjustment tool in Etsy for the final view.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

This checker reads image files and draws previews in your browser. It does not upload image pixels. Existing site analytics can receive image dimensions, file size, format and checker results, but not your image file.

Why can Etsy support HEIC when this browser cannot read it?

File support in Etsy and decoding support in your browser are different. If this browser cannot read a file, export a JPG copy on your device and check that copy. A decoding error is not proof that Etsy will reject the original.

What should I check on a clothing thumbnail?

Check the neckline, both sleeves and the full hem. If any part disappears, use a photo with more background around the garment. Do not stretch the garment to fit the frame.
